The exercise library
Updated Oct 2, 2026
Every exercise you can record results on, in one list: the shared ones the Smart Training team writes, and your own. Both are free, whatever your plan.
Shared exercises and your own
Shared exercises are written by the Smart Training team, with names in English, Russian and Ukrainian; you read each in your language. Every one is already yours to use: there is nothing to add.
Your own exercises are for movements the library doesn’t have. Create one with New exercise in Exercises: its name, its kind and its muscle groups. The name is 1 to 100 characters in any language, and it reads the same in every language. Two of your exercises can’t have the same name, though one of yours may share a shared exercise’s name. Only you see your own exercises, marked Mine in the list, and you can have up to 500 of them. Change one with Edit on its page; a shared exercise is changed only by the team.
Three kinds of exercise
The kind says what a result records:
- Weighted: the load and the reps, the load being all that is lifted, as in a bench press or a barbell squat.
- Bodyweight: the reps, as in pull-ups or push-ups.
- Bodyweight with added load: the added load and the reps, as in weighted pull-ups. You enter only what you added; your body weight is counted for you.
The same movement with and without added load is two exercises: pull-ups are bodyweight, weighted pull-ups are bodyweight with added load. Once an exercise has results, its kind can’t change.
Muscle groups
Every exercise has one primary muscle group, the one it works most, and any number of secondary ones. There are seventeen, in six regions:
- Chest: Chest.
- Back: Lats, Upper back, Lower back.
- Shoulders: Front delts, Side delts, Rear delts.
- Arms: Biceps, Triceps, Forearms.
- Core: Abs, Obliques.
- Legs: Glutes, Quadriceps, Hamstrings, Adductors, Calves.
An exercise’s page shows them on a muscle map, front and back. In your own exercise’s form you mark them on the map, switching between Primary and Secondary, or pick them from a list.
Finding an exercise
The list is ordered by name in your language, a page at a time: Load more brings the next. Search looks in the English, Russian and Ukrainian names. Narrow the list by:
- Source: All, Shared, Mine or Archived;
- Kind;
- Muscle groups, picked on the map: an exercise matches when it works one of them, as primary or secondary.
Each row shows your latest result, with its e1RM where it has one, marked Record when it set a record. When nothing matches your search, create the exercise as your own, or press Suggest it for the library to ask the team to add it for everyone.
Archiving and restoring
Your own exercises are archived, never deleted. Archive takes one out of your list and search; its results stay, and you find it under Archived, where Restore brings it back as it was. Restoring needs its name to be free among your exercises, and a place among your 500.
When the team takes a shared exercise out of the library, it leaves everyone’s list. If you have results on it, you still find it under Archived, marked “No longer in the library”.
An archived exercise takes no new results, but you can still correct or delete the ones it has.
